Subject: Coronavirus Shut Downs
Below are a few points to consider from our Chief Sales Officer, as well there is a ‘general maintenance’ checklist which is attached and for which any business can use this in their operations.
If any business were to move all their contents out of their building and there are no operations, they would generally only have 7 days coverage unless they ask for & obtain a ‘vacancy permit’ from their current insurer. If the contents remain inside their building and there are no operations, they generally have 30 days coverage. It is important that they maintain some kind of activity, check on their premise and/or talk to their broker about getting the right kind of coverage in place during this emergency shut down. As noted below, it is suggested that they keep some heat on in the building and shut the water off if they are not to be on premise much. Frozen or burst pipes is a common loss that can wreak havoc when no one is on site.
I hope this is of some help for the immediate moment Colleen. If you need something more I can be reached on my cell.
Warmest Regards,
Laura

Subject: Coronavirus Shut Downs
During this time, we wanted to share some general best practices for clients that may have to shut their doors temporarily. After speaking with several carriers, the following suggestions are what we are looking for during this time, so please share with your clients:
- Have routine checks of the site conducted when possible. Best practice would be daily, but weekly at the very least.
- Make sure all fire protection (sprinklers + fire detection) and intrusion alarms are still in operation.
- Maintain sufficient heating to the building to prevent potential freeze in the event of cold weather.
- May be best to shut domestic (not sprinkler) valves to minimize chances of unattended leaks.
- Maintain any fire protection inspections (e.g. weekly sprinkler valve inspections) as best they can.
In addition, please see that attached HUB branded maintenance checklists which can assist clients during this time. We’ll be sure to get you more content and insight as this situation developers further.
Thank you, stay safe.
Cheers,
Steve Wallmer
