Downtown Prince George

The heart of our city

About Downtown Prince George

Downtown Prince George (formerly the Prince George Downtown Business Improvement Association) was formed in May of 1999 by a group of downtown property owners and business people to improve the downtown area and enhance the business climate of downtown Prince George. Our main objectives are to organize and manage projects and activities such as streetscape improvements, coordinated marketing programs, planning and economic development initiatives, special events and lobbying.

Downtown Prince George is funded by an annual levy on DPG area properties of $1.70 per $1000 of assessed value. There are 209 registered properties and approximately 300 businesses within our business improvement area boundaries (see map). The City of Prince George passed a bylaw in May 1999 authorizing the creation of the business association for a five year period from 1999 to 2003. Downtown Prince George received a five year renewal of its mandate in November 2003.

Downtown Prince George is a non-profit society. Every February we have our Annual General Meeting where members vote on the direction of the association. If you own a building or operate a business in the DPG area and would like to join the Downtown Prince George, please contact us. There is no fee to join.

Our Vision:

The heart and soul of Prince George is our downtown, which is a positive place where people want to work, live, and play.

Our Mission:

Our purpose is to improve our city by improving our downtown, through:

  • Being able to influence decision makers and all stakeholders
  • Being catalysts and leaders to create a common vision, to ensure positive and effective things happen
  • Being the primary contact to represent downtown businesses
  • Promote, communicate, and celebrate the positive aspects of downtown Prince George

Our 2008-2009 Board

The Downtown Prince George Board of Directors serves its community by steering the future of the downtown on projects such as streetscape improvements, coordinated marketing programs, planning and economic development initiatives, special events, and lobbying. The board is made up of dedicated downtown property owners and business people who volunteer their time for the betterment of the downtown neighbourhood.
